Snapshot/TSC v10.1
release (August 16, 2005)
Updates, fixes and
additional collections.
This new version now
incorporates the 3-Tier
protocol. This has been
totally rewritten and
should prove much more
stable than its predecessor
in Snapshot/400 v8.1.
Also incorporated are
Top X for memory consuming
processes and a Job Management
module. The latter allows
checking for specific
jobs to be active, or
not active, for selected
times (periods).
Please visit www.snapshottsc.com

10.00 and 10.01 is faulty.

Minimum OS level for
Snapshot/TSC.
Snapshot/TSC requires
OS/400 V5R2 and Windows
2000.
Snapshot v8.x to Snapshot/TSC
upgrade.
Snapshot/TSC does not
upgrade Snapshot v8.x.
Snapshot/TSC is installed
as a new application
and may be installed
on the same machine as
Snapshot/400 v8.x. Both
versions of Snapshot
may be running at any
time (if required).
Snapshot/TSC will read
and copy any Remote and
Group descriptors from
the version 8.x files
if the version is found
to exist.
Snapshot will install
into different directories
on the PC. Historical
data may be imported
into Snapshot/TSC from
version 8.x. Use the
Snapshot Data Import
Utility to import data
from version 8.x. Due
to the amount of new
data that is being stored
in Snapshot/TSC, only
CPU, Top 10 jobs and
Remote Response data
can be imported from
version 8.x to TSC.
Before running this
utility make sure Snapshot/TSC
is installed and systems
have been configured
with the same names as
used in version 8.x.
NOTE: Make sure neither
Snapshot/400 v8.1 or
Snapshot/TSC is running
while running this utility.
NOTE:
DO NOT connect Snapshot/TSC
and download
new data as version 8.x
data will NOT be converted
if new
Snapshot/TSC data exists.
If Snapshot/400 v8.x
has been installed into
the default location,
the Data Import Utility
will automatically load
the Systems from the
version 8.x install.
If not, select the location
of the Snapshot/400 v8.x
install. Select the systems
to import and click the
"Go" button.
The time taken to import
the data will vary depending
on how much history has
been stored and could
take a
considerable amount of
time. It is recommended
to only import one system
at a time. If "gaps"
exist in the data as
a result of server shut
down, Snapshot/TSC will
insert blank data for
these time periods and
the progress bar remains
the same until the next
sample of data is imported.
Keep Snapshot/400 v8.x
active while installing
Snapshot/TSC.
A change must be made
to the SNAPSHOT user
profile that is built
when Snapshot/400 v8.x
is installed. In some
cases, the "Current
Library" is set
to SNAPSHOT for this
User Id. To make the
change, use a profile
that has *SECADM authority
and enter the following
command on a command
line:
CHGUSRPRF USRPRF(SNAPSHOT)
CURLIB(SNAP70)
Naming conventions
for Snapshot/TSC.
Naming conventions
for Snapshot/TSC are
different from Snapshot/400
v8.x. These changes will
impact your back-up processes,
IPL start-up routines
and any other application
referencing the Snapshot
libraries and/or objects.
Below is a list of names
and commands that are
in effect for Snapshot/TSC.
OS/400 library name
SNAPSHOT
User profile created
on install SNAPTSC
Sub-system name SNAPTSC
A CMD object is copied
to your QSYS library
at install time. This
command (STRSNP) acts
as a direct link to the
Snapshot/TSC Management
menu. It avoids having
to (manually) add SNAPSHOT
to the library list.
The menu gives direct
access to various Snapshot
functions.
IBM Performance Collector
Snapshot/TSC, like
Snapshot/400 v8.x, uses
the IBM Performance Collector
API's to extract data.
This can only be accomplished
by running the IBM Performance
Collector. Snapshot/TSC
data collections have
been greatly expanded
over Snapshot/400 v8.x.
The result of this growth
means that the IBM Performance
Collector libraries will
also grow more rapidly
with this release. We
are currently working
toward a solution. If
you do not have an agreement
with IBM to furnish you
with Performance reports,
it is recommended that
the IBM Performance Collector
libraries are cleared
on a regular basis. The
libraries are QMPGDATA
and QPFRDATA.
